Parliament Hotel was initially built with only four rooms. A further 23 rooms were gradually added. The original carpeting no longer features in the rooms and the authentic wooden window frames were removed in 2009 to be replaced with double-glazed windows. Air conditioning was also installed in all the rooms during 2009.
L’Opera, an opera-inspired restaurant, used to be part of the hotel. The cuisine had an Italian and Continental focus and the space could accommodate up to 40 people.
The building facade looked a lot different, back then, and our foyer did not have the space that it currently displays.
Our first guests were from both Parliament and Provincial Government and we still have many government-related visitors. Our clientele, lately, are 50% local guests and 50% international guests.
Security in Barrack Street has improved dramatically over time and the presence of the Central City Improvement District provides us with peace of mind.
Parliament Hotel has been successfully run under the current management since 1 January 1997. We thank each and every guest who has ever stayed with us and the many who have returned for their support of our establishment. May you always find a comfortable and inviting place to stay as well as excellent service at 9 Barrack Street.
